Job Description - Laboratory Technician - LT061015


Independent transportation to and from the office is essential, as the office is a significant distance from local bus routes or footpaths.

Hours of work are typically 8.30am to 5pm, Mon - Friday.


  • To perform rudimentary sample preparation / laboratory tasks to the required standards, specifications and to tight deadlines
  • Operation, calibration and maintenance of various pieces of analytical laboratory equipment
  • Following operating procedures, maintaining of laboratory equipment and following safe working procedures
  • Accurately recording data, maintaining work records, data entry into in-house LIMS system
  • To assist in attaining the throughput goals of the department

Qualifications and Experience

Ideally degree-qualified in a scientific subject, preferably chemistry, analytical chemistry or similar. Some knowledge of analytical chemistry, especially ICP-AES, would be desirable, but not essential.

The ideal candidate should be:-

  • A good communicator
  • Computer literate - MS Word and Excel in particular. The successful applicant will be required to work with a number of instrument-related and bespoke software tools
  • Able to work to deadlines
  • Self-motivated and willing to learn
  • Organised, reliable and punctual
  • Able to work well as part of team as well as on own initiative

Non-degree qualified applicants with supplementary levels of experience working in a laboratory environment will be considered as full training will be provided for the right individual.
